Poland and Slovakia signed a letter of intent on February 24 in Warsaw to expand military-technical cooperation across four key areas, including the Piorun air defense system, 155 mm ammunition, wheeled armored personnel carriers, and the Polonized K2 tank.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz highlighted Slovakia's interest in acquiring the Piorun system, which has been used in Ukraine. He also emphasized plans to boost ammunition production, with Slovakia's facilities described as among the largest globally.
The agreement includes a plan to jointly produce wheeled armored personnel carriers based on Poland’s Rosomak, equipped with the Slovak-made Turra-30 turret system, for export to third-country markets. Slovakia also expressed interest in the Polonized version of the K2 tank, which Kosiniak-Kamysz described as an important step for the Polish arms industry.
The meeting, attended by Robert Kaliňák, Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, also addressed cooperation between the Territorial Defense Forces and border security. Both countries reaffirmed a shared stance on military spending within the European Union and NATO.
Kosiniak-Kamysz stressed the importance of collaboration with Slovakia for regional security and strengthening NATO’s eastern flank. He noted that the new agreement elevates bilateral cooperation to a higher level, focusing on security as a top priority.
