The Netherlands’ Defence Ministry has partnered with VDL Groep to expand military production, with initial efforts set to begin in Born, Limburg.
Minister Ruben Brekelmans and VDL CEO Willem van der Leegte announced the agreement on March 21 in Eindhoven. The collaboration is intended to accelerate the Netherlands' defence production, supporting the armed forces with equipment such as combat vehicles, drones, and high-tech systems. The initiative aims to shorten delivery times, ensure supply chain security, and reduce reliance on non-European sources.
VDL brings large-scale production capabilities and advanced infrastructure to the initiative. The Defence Ministry plans to support the company by facilitating production facility rentals, connecting VDL with other manufacturers, and coordinating international orders to ensure sufficient scale for production.
