Poland has signed a contract worth approximately PLN 6.57 billion ($1.6 billion) for the procurement of 111 Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs).
The agreement signed on March 27 involves the Armament Agency and a consortium led by Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa SA (PGZ) and Huta Stalowa Wola SA.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, along with other government officials, participated in the signing ceremony. The contract covers vehicle deliveries between 2025 and 2029 and includes a training and logistics package, as well as preparations for serial production.
Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that the deal fulfills a decade-long effort to develop a domestically produced IFV, ensuring that Polish funds remain within the national defense industry. The vehicle will replace Soviet-era BWP-1 platforms.
The Borsuk IFV is based on a universal modular tracked platform (UMPG) and features a remotely controlled turret system (ZSSW-30). It is designed for transporting six soldiers into battle while providing protection and fire support. The broader program includes the development of specialist vehicles such as command, medical evacuation, and reconnaissance platforms.
The contract follows a 2023 framework agreement outlining Poland’s long-term acquisition of approximately 1,400 Borsuk-based vehicles.
