The Portuguese Air Force (PRT AF) has announced its participation in joint studies with Embraer and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to explore modifications for the KC-390 Millennium tactical airlifter to support Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
The announcement was made at the LAAD Defense & Security exhibition, attended by top officials, including Portuguese Air Force Commander General João Cartaxo Alves and Brazilian Air Force Commander Lieutenant-Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno.
A concept image of a modular ISR roll-on/roll-off system, currently under development, was unveiled during the event. This system aims to integrate ISR capabilities into the KC-390 while retaining its multi-mission functionality. Damasceno highlighted the aircraft’s potential for ISR and maritime patrol, emphasizing the value of Portugal’s experience in the study.
