India has formalized two Joint Declarations of Intent with Russian research institutions to advance cooperation in critical minerals technology and sustainable resource development.
The agreements were signed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) with Russia’s State Research and Design Institute of the Rare Metal Industry (JSC Giredmet), affiliated with the Rosatom State Corporation, and the National University of Science and Technology MISIS (NUST MISIS), both based in Moscow.
The collaboration focuses on research and development in process metallurgy, especially on technologies for extracting and processing critical minerals. These resources are considered essential for India’s goals under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) and “Viksit Bharat” (developed India) initiatives.
“This partnership will play an important role in strengthening India’s technological capabilities in processing rare and critical minerals,” said Dr. Kali Sanjay, Chief Scientist and Head of Business Development at CSIR-IMMT, who is coordinating the collaboration along with Russian counterparts Dr. Konstantin V. Ivanovskikh from Giredmet and Dr. Natalia Korotchenko from NUST MISIS.
