The Trump administration will stop brokering peace between Russia and Ukraine if a deal is not worked in “days, not weeks,” US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio said.
”If our efforts to end the war fail (…) we’ll inform Trump that negotiations are no longer a viable option. If both sides are serious about peace, we’re ready to help, if not, we’ll move on.”
Speaking on behalf of the President, Rubio told reporters that it has to be determined whether the peace initiative is “doable.“
Some are saying that this is bad for Ukraine, and we have to see that, but I don’t think so. It appears that Trump didn’t get from these talks what he wanted and just got bored. Putin, on the other hand, needs Trump more than anyone.
In peace talks so far, Ukraine has stood firm that not a single inch of Ukrainian soil will be surrendered to the Russian invasion while Moscow has said it will not give up on land already conquered.
Trump also concedes through Rubio that Europe needs to agree to any peace process. This means that Trump’s attempt to bypass Europe also failed.
Ukraine-U.S. MOU on economic collaboration
The U.S. has published a memorandum on economic partnership with Ukraine, outlining 3 key goals: joint investment in a safe and independent Ukraine, recognition of Ukraine’s nuclear disarmament contribution to global security, and support for EU integration without artificial barriers. This follows a recent agreement to prepare a strategic deal on critical minerals.
