The DGA (French Defence Procurement Agency) has selected Thales to perform an architectural study and define the ground segments and networks for satellite communications, as a complement to Syracuse: Inmarsat, Telcosat and Athena. This study, known as COMCEPT (“COMplément de Capacités en Elongation, Projection et Théâtre” - Additional Capacities in Elongation, Projection and Theatre), defines the implementation of satellite communications and their use for the armed and security forces. This contract further consolidates Thales’ position as a leading system architect. Armed and security forces are today increasingly involved in peacekeeping operations or crisis situations, making it essential for them to be provided with secure and effective communication solutions. The architecture system developed by Thales as part of the COMCEPT study is an innovative addition to the SYRACUSE III system and aims to provide all of the forces involved in civil or military theatres of operation with reconfigurable, secure and interoperable high bandwidth satellite communications. “Thales is proud to be selected by the DGA. This choice demonstrates Thales’ ability to meet defence requirements. Our knowledge of civil networks and technologies allows us to reach the best operational, technological and economic compromise”, explained Jean-Michel Lagarde, Director of Thales’s Network and Infrastructure Systems business, Defence and Security C4I systems Division. “It was also Thales’ customer-focused approach in terms of its specific needs and issues that enabled us to win this contract.”
