The Eurofighter Typhoon will be making a rare demonstration of its unrivalled agility and engine power with a full weapon load air display at this year’s Farnborough International air show which starts next Monday 19th July. In total, two Typhoon jets will participate in the show’s daily display of air capabilities, the first, from RAF’s 29 Squadron which will fly ‘clean’ as with all display aircraft, and the second, a Warton based UK development jet (IPA 5) which will take off immediately after the RAF aircraft has landed, flying with a full weapon configuration rarely seen at air shows. IPA 5 will fly with all 13 hard points occupied in a full swing-role configuration, including four Paveway II laser guided bombs, 3 fuel tanks, four AMRAAMs (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles) and two ASRAAMs (Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missiles) and will highlight to the trade and public visitors that the Typhoon is agile, regardless of weapon load, pulling up to an impressive 5.5g and in excess of 20 degrees angle of attack. Most air displays are achieved by reducing fuel and weapon loads, however with this display, IPA 5 demonstrates significant weapon carriage and manoeuvrability whilst still being able to demonstrate carefree handling for the pilot. In addition to the air display, two more Eurofighter Typhoons will be on the ground at the show. An Italian Air Force aircraft can be found on static display at the Finmeccanica stand and a mock-up Eurofighter will be exhibited outside the Eurofighter pavilion for visitors to sit in the cockpit. The pavilion will have a new selection of capabilities on display including recently released into service capabilities such as the Helmet Mounted Symbology Systems (HMSS) alongside other future/enhanced capabilities, such as the EUROJET thrust vectoring nozzle, the Meteor missile and an E-Scan radar. This year’s show will truly highlight how the Eurofighter Typhoon is the world’s most advanced new generation multi-role combat jet.
