Roberto Adinolfi, chief executive of Ansaldo Nucleare , a nuclear engineering company owned by Italian defense giant Finmeccanica was shot outside his house in Genoa in northern Italy on Monday. Two unidentified gunmen on a black Yamaha motorbike wearing helmets fired three shots, fracturing Adinolfi's right knee.
According to the Italian police the incident was “reminiscent of politically motivated violence that raged in the country in the 1970s and 1980s”. Giuseppe Orsi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Finmeccanica, said,“The aggressive act would represent cause for alarm not to be underestimated, if its suspected subversive origins are confirmed, both for the danger of social destabilization relating to the ongoing economic difficulties, and for the risk that they can be used for ideological ends”. Genoa chief prosecutor Michele Di Lecce said he could not rule out "terrorism" as a cause of the shooting. "But we are also considering other possibilities. No one has claimed responsibility," he said.
