Taiwan is all set to take the delivery of a powerful multiple launch rocket system known as 'The thunder 2000' aimed at neutralising China's amphibious landing capabilities and will be put into service in August. The ministry plans to produce 50 systems at an estimated cost of $483 million. “After it is armed with the new weapons, the military will see its anti-landing capability be greatly enhanced,” said a military spokesperson was quoted as saying. The Thunder 2000 can launch 40 rockets in a minute with a range of 28 miles and is has longer range capability that can neutralize amphibious craft before they reach the shore. The truck-mounted launchers can be combat ready in eight minutes, less than half the time the current system needs to position itself.
