According to reports, Japan plans to develop an unmanned drone that could detect a nuclear missile attack namely from North Korean as well as counter China’s military buildup. Over the next four years, the defense ministry plans on spending $372 million to develop the aircraft, which would come into operation in 2020. The drone will be equipped with an infrared sensor to seek out low-altitude missiles. The decision to develop the UAV comes after Japan failed to detect North Korea’s failed rocket launch in April. Although the rocket, an endeavor to launch a satellite into orbit, disintegrated just two minutes after the launch Japan had to rely on the U.S for information after its own detection systems failed. Japanese officials later said its alert system could not detect the rocket because of its low-altitude flight path.
