China Gets New Stealth Frigate With ‘Electromagnetic Compatibility’
The Chinese Navy on Tuesday reportedly inducted a new type of stealth frigate identified as a “Type 056 stealth frigate,” according to the official Xinhua news agency.
The new frigate is expected to bolster the country’s maritime defenses amid territorial disputes, state media reported Tuesday. The ship’s prowess and size is still unclear but it is said to have “good stealth performance and electromagnetic compatibility” and needed just one-third the number of crew members as its predecessor, the Type 053.
The report added that the new ship symbolizes the start of a transformation in China’s naval defense strength and that more of the ships are in production.
Earlier in January, reports suggested that the armed forces were instructed to raise their fighting ability in 2013 and “focus closely on the objective of being able to fight and win battle.”
