No Procurements Until April: A K Antony
India's Defence Minister, AK Antony Inaugurates DefExpo 2014.

India’s Defence Minister AK Antony today announced at Defexpo 2014 that there will be no more procurement until after April 2014.

Addressing the media, he said that the Defence Procurement Procedures (DPP) is also being reviewed. The latest DPP approved in 2013, emphasizes on the growth of Indian defence industry, both in public and private sector, with preference to the ‘Buy’ (Indian), Buy and Make (Indian) categories of acquisitions. Adding the latest Defence Offset Guidelines articulates the key objectives of the policy document, besides adding some new features and modifying some of the earlier provisions.

The Minister of State for Defence, Jitendra Singh said the recent changes made in DPP encourage participation of the Indian Private Sector to take initiatives and compete, with a close interaction between the production agencies, research and development agencies and the users, the Armed Forces.
