India To Have Security Manual for Defense Equipment manufacturer

After streamlining industrial licensing on defense equipment last week, India has issued a set of security guidelines for all licensed defense equipment manufacturing companies.

According to the Indian Express newspaper, the guidelines are to elaborate physical defense systems. It makes the India Official Secrets Act applicable to all the employees of the said licensed companies.

The security manual, classifies defense products into three main categories such as ‘A’ level, which includes propellants, warships, battle tanks and radars and weapons, ‘B’ level, which includes wing assemblies, turret and avionics, and ‘C’ level, which include sub-assembly components.

According to the reports, the Intelligence Bureau is set to check out a security audit for all licensed manufacturers as to how they comply with the regulations. Any visits of foreign nationals are required to report the local IB authorities. The security manual is to be revised every two years, says the manual.
