Iran Unveils New Home-Made Radar Systems

Iran inaugurated a new production line for three indigenously manufactured radar systems including “Hafez”, IRNA news agency reported October 19.

Iran's Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami was present during the inauguration in the southern city of Shiraz.

“The advanced radars are capable of detecting “stealth aircraft, warplanes and cruise missiles,” Hatami said.

“The advanced 3D phased array, Hafez radar is being used in “Mersad” air defense system. Detection of anti-radiation missiles (ARMs) is another capability of these radar systems. The system can trace 100 targets and update their situational information in a few seconds to send it to the defense system,” he said.

The Mersad air defense system fires Shahin (Falcon) missiles which are domestically upgraded version of the US MIM-23 Hawk surface-to-air missiles. The defense system uses domestically produced radar and electronic devices.

Last month, Iran had unveiled two domestically made passive phased radar systems Arash-2 and Kayhan.

Hatami stated that the Islamic Republic has attained self-sufficiency in manufacturing military equipment, including missiles and radar systems.
