Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd plans to develop a passenger aircraft in the near future, according to HAL Chairman, Dr RK Tyagi.

Tyagi also says that the company is awaiting government approval on the formation of a new company that will take the project forward.

According to reports, the company, will be formed between HAL and NAL (National Aerospace Laboratories) and will head the project.

Tyagi recently said that a request for proposal (RFP) to develop the engine for the regional transport aircraft (RTA) will be issued soon, after 11 bidders responded to the earlier request for interest (RFI) process initiated during end of 2013.

HAL previously said the aircraft will have a 70-90-seat capacity and will debut by 2022.
