Lockheed Martin announced Sunday that it has opened a new innovation centre in Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City to provide advanced security solutions to the United Arab Emirates.
The Centre for Innovation and Security Solutions (CISS) is the first of its kind outside the United States, the company said in a statement.
CISS is a reconfigurable, multi-purpose facility and will not be restricted to providing only security solutions.
CISS will enable cooperation between Lockheed Martin and the UAE government, industry and academia to develop solutions that address challenges ranging from climate change to resource scarcity, and also help advance scientific discovery locally.
Although the collaboration between the UAE government and Lockheed Martin was initially on defense programs, it later branched out to include fields such as energy, cyber security and sustainability.
“The centre will facilitate capacity building and stimulate knowledge transfer by enabling access to Lockheed Martin’s extensive network of laboratories, research facilities and centers of excellence across the globe,” said Sultan Al Jaber, chairman of Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy and clean technology company.
