Lebanon has received shipment of the $25 million worth equipments that includes more than 70 M198 howitzers and over 26 million rounds of ammunition on Sunday at Beirut’s port.

US provided weapons for helping the Lebanese army to fight against IS militants who have staged incursions from Syria. These came in addition to a fleet of bulletproof Humvees that arrived last month.

Lebanon was the fifth biggest recipient of U.S. military aid. It received more than $100 million last year, US Ambassador David Hale was quoted as saying by multiple reporters.

“Support for the (Lebanese military) remains a top priority for the United States. Recent attacks against Lebanon’s army only strengthen America’s resolve to stand in solidarity with the people of Lebanon to confront these threats,” the embassy was quoted as saying by AFP.
