Bechtel Awarded Contracts to Operate Bettis, Knolls Laboratories

FREDERICK, Md. --- The U.S. Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program today announced that Bechtel Marine Propulsion Corporation (BMPC) has been awarded contracts to operate the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories.>> The five-year contracts with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command are valued at $6 billion. BMPC will assume operation of the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories on Feb. 1, 2009 following a four-month transition period.>> BMPC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI). BNI is a leading provider of services to the U.S. government, specializing in large, complex projects in such areas as defense, space, energy, security and the environment. It is one of the Bechtel group of companies, one of the world's premier engineering, construction and project management organizations, whose companies have experience on more than 22,000 projects in 140 countries.>> The Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, with locations in Pittsburgh, PA; Idaho Falls, ID; and Charleston, SC, is currently operated by Bechtel Bettis, Inc. The Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, in Schenectady, NY, is currently operated by KAPL, Inc., a Lockheed Martin company.>> "We are very pleased to be able to continue our service for DOE and the U.S. Navy in support of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program," said Bechtel National's Chairman Scott Ogilvie.
