Kim Jong Un Photo-ops With SLBM Scientists While UN Threatens Sanctions Against North Korea

North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un participated in a photo session with scientists, technicians, workers and officials who were part of the successful test-fire of the submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM) by the country’s navy earlier this month.

“When Kim Jong Un appeared in the venue of the photo session, all the participants broke into enthusiastic welcoming cheers.” A  report in the official North Korean News Agency  said today.

“The acquisition of the SLBM firing technique is another historical event which fully displayed the dignity and might of Kim Il Sung's and Kim Jong Il's Korea over the world”, the report quoted the leader as saying.

He said the “eye-opening miracle” could be created thanks to the ardent loyalty, noble patriotism and fortitude displayed by the scientists, technicians, workers and officials.  He expressed that they would produce much more cutting-edge military hardware for implementing the strategic plan of the WPK Central Committee.

Meanwhile, A U.N. panel reported Thursday that it will look into North Korea's recent launch of a submarine-launched ballistic missile to determine whether the test violated U.N. resolutions banning Pyongyang from any ballistic missile activity.

The Security Council's North Korea Sanctions Committee made the report in a Security Council meeting. If the committee determines the North's test constitutes a violation of Security Council resolutions, it could bring more sanctions on the communist nation.

The committee's decision came after South Korea sent a letter asking it to take up the matter.

On May 9, North Korea claimed it successfully carried out an SLBM test underwater, renewing tensions on the Korean Peninsula amid concern that the North's SLBM capability, if fully developed, would pose a serious threat because its mobile nature would make it very difficult to detect preparations for a launch.

North Korea is expected to protest the committee's decision to look into the test.
