Thales To Provide Command And Control Capability To Canadian Army’s Light Armored Vehicle

Thales announced Wednesday that it has partnered with DRS Sustainment Systems to produce mast mounted surveillance suites, operator control systems, engineering and support for the Canadian Army's light armored vehicle-reconnaissance surveillance system (LRSS) project.

The partnership will work on the US $100 million contract awarded by General Dynamics.

Under the partnership, Thales will design, develop and qualify the Battlefield Operational Surveillance Software (BOSS) that enables soldiers to configure, control and monitor the surveillance suite sensors from a customized user interface, leveraging the established Thales pedigree from the Land Command Support System.

Thales in Canada is the prime contractor of the Canadian Army’s tactical battle management system.

The BOSS software suite will be fully integrated in to the latest version of DRS’ Surveillance and Battlefield Reconnaissance Equipment (SABRE) system, integrating radar, thermal imaging and laser systems on a stabilized mast.

Thales is the provider of the main C4I NATO applications:  Intelligence, Command & Control, and Common operational picture. Thales also delivers full communication capabilities for NATO applications in Afghanistan and C4I applications in Australia, France, Canada, Spain and Switzerland.
