Thailand to Proceed with Mid Life Upgrade of Six F-16s

The Thai cabinet on Saturday has approved Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) to proceed with md life update of the last batch of six F-16 fighter aircraft for 9 billion Baht (US $256 million).

Thailand has so far upgraded six F-16 fighters and six more need to be upgraded. The mid-life upgrade (MLU) will extend the jets’ life span for 20 more years. The upgrade is scheduled to be completed in 2017. The RTAF has 18 F-16 jets in service.

Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Tritos Sonchaeng said, “The RTAF has asked the air force-sponsored Thai Aviation Industries Co, and Lockheed Martin to undertake the modernization of the F-16 jets.”
