China is building the world’s longest aircraft carrier base at Hainan Island in South China Sea to deploy guided missile nuclear submarines.

China has completed basic construction work on 700 meter long dock at its Sanya naval complex in Hainan province in November 2014, Kanwa Defense review reported Wednesday.

The second Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy aircraft carrier base will service ships on both sides and can accommodate two aircraft carriers or larger ships simultaneously. China plans to develop three aircraft carriers along with the existing Liaoning in operation.

According to a report by state-run People’s Daily, Hainan was chosen for its strategic location, its complete defense facilities and its effectiveness to deploy guided missile nuclear submarines. The naval base is also close to Malacca Strait, Lombok Strait and Sunda Strait making it easier for its China’s naval composition.

Hainan Island is also equipped with quite advanced defense facilities after years of development, providing enough support to the naval base.
