Saab will modernize Polish MiG-29 fleet in an agreement with Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze (WZL) to enable the aircraft to carry the company’s electronic warfare self-protection systems.

Saab signed a teaming agreement with WZL Thursday to open the way to cooperate on modernization of other systems in use with Polish Air Force.

Polish Air Force MiG-29 are heavily engaged in air policing missions in Poland and abroad where they need modern Electronic Warfare capability. To display Saab´s capability in the Electronic Warfare field, a Saab BOL chaff dispenser mounted on a MiG-29 was recently displayed during a military fair in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Saab´s Electronic Warfare (EW) systems are designed to provide situational awareness with ability to detect, localize and identify radar frequency based threats. They give the information and decision superiority a pilot need to be on top of the electronic battlefield. And if detected, protection from countermeasure systems will mitigate the risks in the hostile engagement.
