Turkey has increased the number of warplanes patrolling the Turkey-Syrian border to 18 from 12.
The decision to increase comes after Turkish F-16 hit a Russian Su-24 yesterday which triggered tension between the two nations, Hurriyet Daily News reported Wednesday.
The intensification of the aerial protection of Turkish airspace was announced by a routine daily statement of the Chief of General Staff that declared that the Turkish-Syrian border was now being patrolled by 18 F-16s.
Turkey has always patrolled its airspace with F-16s, but the number of warplanes on duty was no more than 12, even during early October when Russian jet fighters first violated Turkish airspace.
