General Dynamics has won a $92 million contract for six system-enhanced program of Abrams M1A2 tanks.
The contact is estimated to complete by July 2017.
The M1A2 SEP builds on digitized M1A2 platform with improved armor package of third generation steel-encased depleted uranium armor, new command and control system, second generation FLIR thermal sights that include Commander’s Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV) for ‘hunter-killer’ operation Under Armor Auxiliary Power Unit (UAAPU) that lets crews run key electronics without running the engine, and a Thermal Management System (TMS – i.e. air conditioning for crew & electronics).
