The fifth of the six Kilo-class submarines that Vietnam has contracted to buy from Russia left a Danish port on Sunday to head for Vietnam.

The HQ-186 Da Nang, delivered by Dutch-registered cargo ship Rolldock Star, started its journey on December 16 from Russia’s St. Petersburg and arrived at the Port of Skagen in northern Denmark on December 19, Thanh Nien news daily reported Monday.

The journey is expected to take one and a half months. The submarine is scheduled to arrive at the Port of Singapore on January 29, 2016 before arriving in Vietnam.

Also on December 19, the sixth and final submarine named HQ-187 Ba Ria-Vung Tau also had its sea trials after being launched in late September, according to Russian sources.

The six submarines are built under a US$2-billion deal signed during a Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's visit to Russia in 2009.
