A series of six conventional submarines will be built for the Pacific Fleet, the Russian Navy official said Saturday.
"In the perspective the Navy is making attempts and, evidently, they should find a confirmation in construction of another six submarines (project 636), which would go to the Pacific Fleet," Chief of the Russian Navy’s shipbuilding management department Captain 1st Rank Vladimir Tryapichnikov said, TASS reported quoting the Russian News Service radio station.
Last September, the Russian Pacific Fleet added a new generation ballistic missile submarine, the Vladimir Monomakh, a Borei class (“North Wind”) submarine.
The captain further said that at the end of the year, country’s only aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will undergo modernization and updated wing of the ship will include new MiG-29K and other aircraft, Russian news service reported.
