Russian demining experts dismantled and removed ISIS-planted mines and explosive devices in more than 8500 buildings in Palmyra city to which the army restored security and stability in cooperation with the supporting forces on March 27th, 2016.

Commander of the engineering troops in the Russian army, Lieutenant General Yury Stavitsky said in a press statement “During the period of Russian experts’ task in Palmyra, we removed nearly 18000 explosive devices from 825 hectares and 8500 buildings in the city”, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.

He added the Russian experts faced hard situations while dismantling complicated explosive devices made or planted by terrorists in new and unusual ways.

“The Russian experts have trained their Syrian Colleagues since a week to use Russian- made equipment to monitor mines and explosive devices," Stavitsky added.
