Raytheon's SeaRAM Anti-ship Missile Test Fired
The US Navy has conducted its live test fire with the Raytheon’s SeaRAM anti-ship defense system installed on the USS Carney.
During the test fire, the SeaRAM anti-ship defense system shoot down an unmanned, jet-propelled drone target, Raytheon announced Wednesday.
The SeaRAM is designed to enlarge Phalanx's range against evolving anti-ship missiles, rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft. Further the system is equipped with advanced Phakanx Block 1 B sensors, but its Phalanx’s gun is replaced with an 11 round Rolling Airframe Missile guide.
The Carney is the second of four guided-missile destroyers stationed near the Mediterranean Sea to receive a SeaRAM system. The ship is the US Navy's fourteenth Arleigh Burke-class destroyer.
