China has considered developing high level artificial intelligence and automation to strengthen its next generation cruise missile.

Our plan is adopting a ‘plug and play’ approach in the new cruise missile development that will enable military commanders to tailor missiles in accordance with combat situations, Wang Changqing, a senior designer was quoted as saying by China Daily.

The future cruise missiles, including testing anti-missile missiles and anti-satellite missiles, will have a high level of artificial intelligence and automation, Wang, director of the General Design Department of the Third Academy of the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corp said Friday.

The commanders can control future cruise missiles in real time manner with option to use a fire and forget mode, or add more tasks to in-flight missiles.

President Xi Jinping is supervising the military modernization program, including developing stealth fighters and building aircraft carriers.

In March, China has announced 7.6 percent defense budget rise, lowest in six years, reaching $146 billion.
