Poland will seek U.S. authorization to buy the Patriot Integrated Air and Missile Defense System from Raytheon.

Poland's Minister of National Defense Antoni Macierewicz participating in the opening of the Kielce Trade Fair event Wednesday informed the public of the on-going modernization occurring in the sector, “When it comes to the realm of weaponry, which is linked to anti-missile defense systems, anti-aircraft defense systems, today I have signed the decision about the preparation of a ‘letter of request’ to the U.S. Government and Raytheon concerning the ordering of the Patriot system for the ‘Wisła’ program.”

“Of course, this is related to a number of earlier agreed mutual obligations, mutual principles, for a total of eight defensive batteries. By the year 2019, two batteries along with intermediate battery components with a guarantee, will be delivered from the onset, equipped with an ICBS system. The third, which we will be purchasing in the year 2020, will be equipped with latest technology omni-directional radar, with which Poland will be on par with what the Armed Forces of the United States use,” Macierewicz said
