China Delivers Second OP Vessel To Nigeria

Offshore patrol vessel Unity, the second vessel of this type that Nigeria ordered from China, has reached the West African country's largest port city Lagos last week following a 45-day voyage.

The Unity is built by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group, following the "Century", which was delivered to Nigeria last year, China Mill reported Friday.

The Unity sailed 12,000 nautical miles and reached Lagos military port on November 4, according to the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation’s website.

Nigerian chief of naval staff and China’s consul general in Lagos, who was on behalf of the Chinese side, attended the welcome ceremony at the port.

Setting sail from Qidong Port in Jiangsu, China, the Unity passed through the Taiwan Strait into the South China Sea, traversed the Strait of Malacca and the Indian Ocean, entered the Atlantic Ocean via the Cape of Good Hope.

The vessel visited five countries including Malaysia, Mauritius, and South Africa and conducted friendly exchanges with navies of the visited countries on its cross-ocean voyage.
