India Likely To Commission First Scorpene 'Kalveri' By July

India’s first Scorpene-class 'Kalvari' submarine that was built under transfer of technology from DCNS, France is in the final phase of trials and will be delivered in July-August.

“The Kalvari (First of the Scorpene class) is in the final phase of trials.” Indian Naval Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba said on Wednesday.

“We are hopeful that in July-August we will take delivery,” he said on the sidelines of a Navy-FICCI seminar on “Building India’s future Navy: technology imperatives.” The process should move within six months, he added.

The research team was appreciated by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on May 27 for conducting the test fire of torpedo missile from indigenously built Scorpene Class Submarine.

Six Scorpene submarines are being built under Project-75 by Mazgaon Docks Limited (MDL) with technology transfer from France.

Earlier in January, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Submarines), Mohit Gupta said that the Indian Navy was also planning to induct two scorpene class submarines this year.
