Russian Uralvagonzavod is likely to start the supply modernized T-90M tanks to the military in 2018.
The Russian Defense Ministry and Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) signed contracts for the supply of new T-90M tanks as well as contracts for the overhaul of T-72B, T-80BB and T-90 tanks during last month’s Army-2017.
The new tank will likely feature a new version of 125mm smoothbore gun (2A82-1M), which was developed for T-14 along with a new autoloader and new fire control system with increased barrel life.
In addition to the projectiles, the T-90M can fire a 9M119M missile with the tandem cumulative warhead Invar and Invar-M and strike modern and prospective enemy tanks at a distance of up to 5 kilometers. As additional protection, the tank received anti-cumulative screen grids, a set of dynamic and active protection, according to military expert Alexei Leonkov, reported tvzvezda in January this year.
According to Chief of the Main Armored Directorate of the Russian Defence Ministry Lt. Gen. Alexander Shevchenko, the modernized T-90M tank has entered state trials, Defence-blog reported Sunday.
“The directorate had to speed up the design of new armored fighting vehicles and modernization of old ones in line with combat experience obtained in Syria”, he said.
