Iran unveiled new advanced radar system on Monday during a ceremony with Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami in attendance, Tasnim news agency reports.
Dubbed “Afaq” (horizons), the radar is capable of monitoring and tracking vessels at a distance of up to 200 kilometers, adding that it can also track aerial targets, defense minister said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Brigadier General Hatami hailed the production of the radar system and said it was developed thanks to the endeavors of domestic experts at the Defense Ministry.
Iran has one of the Middle East's largest missile programmes and has repeatedly held military exercise to showcase its defence systems, including radars, anti-missile defence units, and short and medium-range missiles.
