The US Marine Corps has awarded Oshkosh Defence an over $19 million contract for an additional 31 P-19R Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles.

Oshkosh began delivering the first P-19Rs in June of 2017 and in total, Oshkosh has received orders for 160 P-19R vehicles for deliveries through 2019.

“The Marine Corps has been using the legacy Oshkosh-manufactured P-19A ARFF vehicle for over 30 years,” said Pat Williams, Vice President and General Manager of Army and Marine Corps Programs at Oshkosh Defense. “The Marine Corps is now in need of a vehicle replacement with advanced firefighting capabilities and improved off-road mobility which Oshkosh Defense is delivering in the new P-19R ARFF vehicle.”

The P-19R vehicle design is based on the combat-proven Oshkosh Logistics Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR) platform and the technologically advanced Striker firefighting systems from Oshkosh Airport Products.

The Oshkosh P-19R is equipped with Oshkosh’s Command Zone, an integrated control and diagnostics system. The Command Zone system provides access to vital vehicle information and allows Marines to repair and troubleshoot vehicles, view real-time performance data and remotely access diagnostics information.

It also provides system integration and automation to increase a firefighting crew’s situational awareness and help them carry out missions.
