US Approves Harpoon, SEASPARROW Missiles Sale to Finland

The US State Department has approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FSM) to Finland of RGM-84Q-4 Harpoon Block II+ ER Grade B Surface-Launched Missiles and RGM-84L-4 Harpoon Block II Grade B Surface-Launched Missiles for an estimated cost of $622 million.

Another FMS Finland approval was made for sixty-eight (68) Evolved SEASPARROW Missiles (ESSM) and one (1) ESSM inert operational missile for an estimated cost of $112.7 million.

While Boeing is the contractor for the Harpoon missiles, Raytheon will supply the SEASPARROW missiles.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale Monday.

The Government of Finland has requested a possible sale of one hundred (100) RGM-84Q-4 Harpoon Block II Plus (+) Extended Range (ER) Grade B Surface-Launched Missiles, twelve (12) RGM-84L-4 Harpoon Block II Grade B Surface-Launched Missiles, twelve (12) RGM-84Q-4 Harpoon Block II+ ER Grade B Surface-Launched Upgrade Kits, four (4) RTM-84L-4 Harpoon Block II Grade B Exercise Surface-Launched Missiles, and four (4) RTM-84Q-4 Harpoon Block II+ ER Grade B Exercise Surface-Launched Missiles.

In addition, Finland has requested a possible sale of sixty-eight (68) Evolved SEASPARROW Missiles (ESSM) and one (1) ESSM inert operational missile.  Also included are seventeen (17) MK25 quad pack canisters, eight (8) MK783 shipping containers, spare and repair parts.

Finland intends to use the Harpoon missiles on its Hamina class ships, Multirole Corvette ships, and Coastal Batteries.  Finland has not purchased Harpoon Block II+ ER previously.

Finland intends to use the SEASPARROW missiles on its new Squadron 2020 class Corvette ships.  Finland has not purchased ESSM previously.

The principal contractors will be Raytheon Missile Systems (RMS) Tucson, AZ, for the missiles, and BAE Systems, Aberdeen, SD, for the missile canisters.

The purchaser typically requests offsets. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor.
