The Russian military’s fifth generation Protivnik-GE 3D surveillance radar has entered the service of air defense units in Samara region.
The radar is designed to control the space, detect, and determine the coordinates (azimuth, range, and altitude), speed and flight trajectory of air targets at long ranges and high altitude heights, the Russian ministry of defense press service reported Tuesday.
The station operates under conditions of intense radio interference when operating as part of an automated air defense control system, a rapid reaction force and an air traffic control system.
Latitude radar works in conditions of intense radio interference without additional support and issues information simultaneously to guide the fighters and target designation of anti-aircraft missile battalions. The radars can detect for several hundred kilometers.
