ISI Organizes Russian, Chinese, Iranian Spy Chiefs Meet in Pakistan

Russian, Chinese, Iranian and Pakistani intelligence directors met in Islamabad to discuss regional cooperation to combat the Islamic State in Afghanistan.

The meeting was held in Pakistan and included the participation of Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) under the Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) directorate and was attended by senior officials from Pakistan, Russia, Iran and China, Sergei Ivanov, Spokesperson for SVR was quoted as saying by TASS Tuesday.

The discussions focused on the dangers arising from a buildup of the Islamic State on the Afghan territory," Ivanov said

"The conference reached understanding of the importance of coordinated steps to prevent the trickling of IS terrorists from Syria and Iraq to Afghanistan where from they would pose risks for neighboring countries," he said.

According to Russian reports, security officials in China, Russia, Pakistan and Iran are concerned that the Islamic State’s Afghan command is becoming stronger as fighters from the group are leaving the Middle East and moving to Afghanistan.
