Lockheed Martin has won a foreign military sales contract worth over $218 million to provide 18 M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) launchers and associated equipment to Romania, the Department of defense announced Thursday.

“Lockheed Martin Corp., Grand Prairie, Texas, was awarded a $218,058,001 modification (P00024) to foreign military sales (Romania) contract W31P4Q-16-C-0036 for the procurement of 18 M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems launchers, associated training, spares and planned enhancement and product improvement modifications,” the statement says.

HIMARS is a highly-mobile artillery rocket system offering the firepower of the multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) on a wheeled chassis, designed to engage and defeat artillery, air defence concentrations, trucks, light armour and personnel carriers, as well as support troop and supply concentrations.

Work will be performed in Grand Prairie, Texas, with an estimated completion date of Dec. 30, 2020, the release said.

Fiscal 2018 foreign military sales funds in the amount of $106,195,001 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, is the contracting activity, the statement added.
