Iron Dome Intercepts 3 of 17 Missiles fired at Israel from Gaza

Israeli Defense Forces’ Iron Dome intercepted three of 17 rockets that were launched from Gaza.

“An exchange of fire broke out during which one IDF officer was killed and an additional IDF officer was moderately injured. 17 Rockets were launched from Gaza at Israel. The Iron Dome intercepted three of them,” IDF Spokesperson posted on microblogging site, twitter on Sunday.

The IDF Spokesperson following the situation assessment, also stated that, The Israeli Railway line from Ashkelon to Sderot will be closed and School has been cancelled in the Israeli communities surrounding Gaza.

Iron Dome began operating in Israel in 2011. The systems achieved international fame during the country’s 2012 and 2014 Gaza Strip conflicts. The missile reportedly started operating in Golan three months back and has been involved in retaliations against Iranian forces in Syria.
