50 Drones Deployed in Bangkok To Fight Pollution

Fifty Drones and small planes have been deployed in Bangkok to fight unhealthy pollution levels by spraying water over six areas of the city on Thursday.

Aswin Kwannuang, the governor, declared the city a "pollution control zone." Traffic exhaust, construction works, burning crops and pollution from factories are blamed for the haze.

Many schools will remain closed for the rest of the week. Public Health Ministry advised against outdoor activities.

The drones can be flown over a two-square kilometer area for 15-20 minutes on one charge.

Water sprayed using the drones will contain molasses to aid in the attachment to smog particles. The molasses will assist in trapping of the smog and cause it to fall onto the ground as black drops.

"We sourced the 50 drones from Nakhon Ratchasima and Chaiyaphum provinces. They are capable of carrying nearly 10 litres of water each to fly over Bangkok," Bangkok Post quoted the governor as saying.
