The Taiwanese government has approved the mass production of its upgraded Hsiung Feng II anti-ship missile.
It is expected that the mass production will be complete by 2023 and will enter service, Liberty Times reported Monday.
The Hsiung Feng-ER missiles will be mass-produced in at least 36 batches as part of the naval engineering plan known as ‘Thunder project’, the news daily reported quoting unnamed senior officials as saying.
The Hsiung Feng II has a longer range than the Xionger BLK 2 missiles that are in service since 2007 and are capable of breaking into enemy defense nets and counter-interference.
