An-32 Overshoots Runway in India Due to Technical Snag

An Antonov An-32, twin-engined turboprop military transport aircraft belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) overshot the main runway due to a technical snag while departing from the Mumbai airport, located on the west coast of the country, on Tuesday night.

According to a report by NDTV, Defence Ministry officials said that the aircraft had to abandon take off in view of a technical issue and overshot the runway. 

"The aircraft and the crew are safe. A recovery team has arrived in Mumbai and the aircraft will be cleared shortly," the officials said.

The aircraft was departing for Yelahanka Air Force Station near Bengaluru in Karnataka state. No injuries have been reported.

"We confirm, departing Air force Aircraft had runway excursion at 2339 hours at RWY 27," an official from the Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) said Wednesday.

An airport official said that the runway has opened and flight operations have resumed, the report stated further.
