Pak Supreme Court Dismisses Petition Seeking Ban on US Drone Strike

Pakistan’s Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking to ban the US from conducting drone strikes in the country.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, upheld an earlier verdict by the Peshawar High Court (PHC). The Chief Justice remarked that the drone strikes have now stopped, reports Daily Pakistan.

According to the court, the matter has to be resolved between Islamabad and Washington, as such issues are overseen by the government. It stated that the court cannot direct the US to halt the strikes.

The petition was filed by Raja Saad Sultan who claimed that many innocent lives are lost in the US-led drone strikes.

PTI cited a report published by Bureau of Investigative Journalism, according to which, nearly 430 drone strikes had been carried out within Pakistani territory since 9/11, killing up to 4,026 people.
