Boeing has won a $6.5 billion modification contract to supply Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) tail kits, spares, repairs and technical services to the USAF.
This modification involves foreign military sales to currently unknown countries, the US Department of Defense said in a statement Friday.
The JDAM is a low-cost guidance kit that converts existing unguided free-fall bombs into accurately guided “smart” weapons. The kit consists of a new tail section that contains an inertial navigation system/global positioning system (INS/GPS) and body strakes for additional stability and lift.
Work is expected to be complete by Feb. 28, 2025.
