Saudi Coalition forces intercepted and brought down an armed drone flown by Yemen’s Houti forces in the direction of Saudi Arabia last night.

The spokesman of the coalition forces, Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that at 10:20 pm on Wednesday, the Coalition Air Forces managed to intercept and down a drone in Yemeni airspace after it was launched by the Houthi terrorist militia from the north of Sana'a towards the Kingdom.

Colonel al-Maliki said. “Houthi terrorist criminal tool continues to launch drones to carry out hostile and terrorist acts by targeting civilians and civilian installations, and that none of their targets have been achieved. They have been destroyed and shot down.”

We affirm the continued implementation of deterrent measures against these terrorist militias and the neutralization of Houthi capabilities, he said in a statement released to Saudi media.

A Houti drone had earlier this week exploded in the parking lot of the Abha airport in Saudi Arabia causing injuries to several people. Last month a missile fired by the Houtis had landed in the same airport’s arrival hall killing one and wounding some 26 people.

The Houtis militia claim to represent the majority Shia community in Yemen while the Saudi Coalition calls them terrorists. It has been waging a bloody war for the last four years leading to deaths of several thousand Yemenis.
