The US Navy has awarded BAE Systems a contract to develop maritime operations and flight safety systems.
The contract covers large deck naval ships and new aircraft carriers. The deal will see BAE Systems also involved in refuelling and overhauling ships.
The value of the contract has not been disclosed.
The deal builds on a $90 million agreement inked in June to develop the US Navy’s C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) capabilities.
The company was one of three contractors awarded the opportunity to bid on future integration, engineering, assembly, testing, and installation focused task orders awarded throughout an eight-year ordering period.
The work will be performed to enhance a variety of distributed systems that provide network capabilities, communications, command and control, intelligence, and non-tactical data management.
