China Develops 'Drone-Hunting' Reconnaissance Drone

China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) has developed a new hexacopter drone capable of surveillance and reconnaissance functions that can “hunt” small, low flying drones with nets.

The drone “hunts” by approaching its target and dropping a 16sqm net on it, forcing the hostile drone to fall to the ground and rendering it useless, local media reported Tuesday.

"Small, slow, low-flying aircraft are difficult or cost-inefficient for traditional air defense systems to intercept," a military expert who asked not to be named told the Global Times on Wednesday.

The aircraft can work together with land-based rocket launchers and radars.

“It can conduct operations in non-combat areas other than surveillance, reconnaissance and bombardment missions,” the expert noted.
